about ally
I’m a 23-year-old writer (term used quite loosely), on-again, off-again blogger, iPhone photographer, and failed hipster living in southeast Michigan in a town I enjoy referring to as “Hipsilanti”. I graduated with a BA in Creative Writing from Albion College, and have since done a number of things, including working at a print shop (where I learned all of the basics of copy machine maintenance entirely on the fly. oh, and some things about printing, too.) and working for an exceedingly well-known computer company with a pretty tasty logo. I enjoy CMYK themed things, typography, being an excessive pedant, and vides of cats riding on Roombas.
I also don’t know what I want to be when I grow up.

Playing with Illustrator
So, I’ve long been using Photoshop for all the design work I’ve done, and that’s fine for most things, but it can’t export high-quality vector files, and that’s what screenprinters usually use for t-shirts. I remember sending an amazing design … Continue reading

In case you’re interested…
I recently wrote a guest post on the running blog Technically Running about keto and how the keto diet is better for endurance sports like running vs. a high carbohydrate diet (conventional running wisdom). I posted links to actual journal … Continue reading

keto: one month later
As of tomorrow, it will officially be one month since I went grocery shopping and decided to give up on carbohydrates entirely. I didn’t think it would last – I have never made it more than a few days (or … Continue reading

Did I move to Florida overnight? Seriously.
Dearest Michigan, State I love – If I recall, last year at this time, we weren’t out of winter yet. Nicholas Stoller, the director of Five Year Engagement, noted that when they were filming on May 26th, it was snowing … Continue reading

never write a blog entry after 2am
I wish I could be less vague, but sometimes, I feel like I just never win. I am grateful, though, that I have a day off tomorrow, after over a week straight of work. It’s been a pretty exhausting wee … Continue reading
My desktop of the month for May.
I know I just set up the desktop/Geektool arrangement with the cat, but I’m trying to get back a monthly schedule of updating my desktop. Notable features: the invisible dock and inverted kiosk bar, and the superimposed foreground. That was, … Continue reading

Keto-friendly peanut butter cookies
The hardest thing about going keto was giving up sweets. Truth be told, I wasn’t a big meat-eater to begin with, and liked baked goods and candy way too much. I mean, they’re probably why I had to go on … Continue reading

This is all I’ve done on my day off today.
Forget the mountain of laundry that needs to be sorted and ready to go to the laundromat. 3 days’ worth of dishes? Ha! Cleaning the fishtank? The GYM? HA!
Nope, I’m going to spend my day off playing with GeekTool instead. Yep.

Keto-Friendly Meatloaf Muffins
Leer and I had some leftover ground turkey from our previous “no red meat” phase (that failed horribly in regards to weight loss, by the way), and we needed to find a way to use it.
Turkey, obviously, is low in fat, so we needed a way to augment it. The simple solution was to cut up pieces of bacon and wrap the whole mess in bacon. The loaf was made with one egg, cheese, and a little bit of flax for binder. Oh, and cheese on top, and then you just melt cheese on top.
Make sure you serve it with butter-drenched broccoli, too.

adult game night
Went to a friend’s for adult game night shenanigans. Wasn’t so adult afterall – sangria (none for me, though – too much fruit!), a game where the main point is to argue about really inane stuff (Cranium Party Playoff – highly recommend!), reading Ayn Rand’s The Fountainhead outloud while sitting in jail during a game of Bang!, and a nighttime nature walk along the Huron River, which was totally gorgeous.
Also, I totally dominated at Trivial Pursuit.
It was a great night.
